We decided not to tell anyone about our pregnancy news until we hit the 12 week mark. We were still accepting the fact that I was having a baby and so soon! We also didn't want to tell people because if something sad happened to Baby we didn't want so much disappointment. IF something sad did happen, it would not have been kept a secret, but being my first pregnancy we just weren't sure how it would go.
It was very difficult for both Frank and I to not say anything to anyone. My very best friend of over 15 years had told us 3 days after our wedding that she and her hubs were expecting their first baby. I was/am so excited for them and we started talking baby stuff right away! It was a little tricky not to slip up.
I also gchat with my Mom almost daily and that made it really hard not to tell her our news! Frank is very close to his brother and they don't keep secrets. Frank and I had several discussions about this because he really struggled with not telling his #1 confidant.
The 12th week of our pregnancy was 1 week before our family vacation. We decided we wanted to wait the extra week so that we could tell family in person....more on that in another post!!

Letter to Baby - #1
Dear Baby,
When we know your gender and have picked a name, I will address your letters more appropriately :-)
I want to write to you during this pregnancy and tell you how I'm feeling and what I'm experiencing...one day you can read it and hopefully smile. I'll also use the blog to document our family and different things on my mind.
I want to start with how we found out about you. April 28, 2013: It was exactly 3 weeks and 1 day after we got married and I was 5 days "late." I was in the mood for an adult beverage but since I was so many days late I wanted to take a pregnancy test first to make sure I was in the clear to have a drink (your Momma loves Summer seasonal beers!). I pulled a test out of the bathroom drawer and took it. I knew I was over-reacting, I mean we just got married 3 weeks ago!! After a few minutes I picked up the test expecting to be somewhat disappointed, and after seeing the digital word "Pregnant" I set it down on the counter and took a few breaths. NO WAY! I picked it up again and stared at it for a few minutes waiting for the test to change it's mind and add the word "Not". Nope, it was convinced but I was not. So I pulled the second, same brand test out of the drawer and took a retest. The second test agreed with the first test...but since it was fancy-pants digital technology I had my doubts. I ran to the local drug store to get a non-digital brand and re-took TWO more tests...all four tests agreed...you had been created :-)
I was a bit frozen and shocked and kind of walked slow trying to figure out what this meant. I went online and immediately ordered 3 books from Amazon: What to Expect When you are Expecting, What to Eat When you are Expecting, and What to Expect in the First Year. Your Dad was at work and I really wanted to tell him the news in person so I had to wait hours before sharing the news.
When Dad came home from work I already had 2 wine glasses pulled out of the cabinet. He walked in and had our usual hug and kiss...I was so nervous! I asked him if he wanted a glass of wine. I poured him a glass of white wine and I poured myself a glass of water. When I walked over to him and handed him his glass I couldn't stop smiling so big!! He looked at me a little funny and took his glass. I held mine up to cheers and was acting silly. He looked at my glass and asked what was going on. I said, "Well, I can't have a glass of wine for about another 8 months." I think it was shocking because he didn't totally get it and then I said loudly and excitedly, "I'M PREGNANT!" He was shocked and took several long, silent blinks and smiled so huge!! I went to the closet where I stashed the 4 positive tests in a Ziploc bag and held them up to show him the proof.
So that's how I found out and how I told your Dad! We took a few pictures of the wine glasses and a pregnancy test:
